Coast To Coast

Noel Paul Stookey

There's a movie out the window
It's a western travelogue
The actors are tough as sinew
The director surely God
There's cotton on the rive
Winter on the Peaks
A crescent silver sliver
That's almost fast asleep
And it comes to my attention
As we bank into the sun

Creation's a confession of a love that's just begun

The pillowed hills behind us
The earth now makes her bed
The autumn brown reminds us
Of that white and creeping death
The patchwork harvest quilting
Stretches to the haze
The afternoon lays lilting
Like a song from gone-by days
And it comes to my attention
As the light begins to run

Creation's a confession of a love that's just begun

Stars above and stars below
And somewhere in between
Five sailing human arrows
Prepare to wake the dream
And rows and rows of stories
(Up front and in the rear)
Gather up their worries
And so quickly disappear
And it comes to my attention
As the day is finally done

Creation's a confession of a love that's just begun
